Trump Urges Ukraine to 'Get a New President' After Clash Over Russian Diesel Sanctions Relief
The dispute erupted after Trump announced a deal easing Russian diesel exports, which Zelenskyy warned could fund Moscow's war effort.

WASHINGTON, D.C. — President Donald Trump escalated his public rift with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Saturday, telling reporters outside the White House that it was "time for Ukraine to get a new president" after Zelenskyy criticized a U.S. agreement to temporarily ease sanctions on Russian diesel exports.
Trump confirmed that Washington had reached a deal with Moscow to suspend restrictions on Russian diesel exports until April 7. "We said, 'You can do whatever you want to Russia. Don't hit the refineries because that's a world problem that's caused,'" Trump said.
Zelenskyy warned that the agreement could give Russia additional revenue to buy weapons and continue its war against Ukraine. Since the conflict began in February 2022, Iran has allegedly been providing Moscow with drones, while Russia has retaliated with strikes on Ukrainian energy infrastructure.
The clash reflects a broader tension over Trump's approach to ending the war. Trump has repeatedly pressed for Ukraine to negotiate a peace deal, while Zelenskyy has insisted on conditions including territorial concessions from Russia.
Trump's comments came as he traveled to a campaign rally in Clarksville, Tennessee, where he continued to frame Ukraine policy around domestic energy costs, saying, "They're seeing what's happening with fuel prices, and they understand that we need stable oil supplies."
