Ohio State Ends Indiana’s 22-Game Winning Streak as Sayin Injury Adds Uncertainty
A late out-of-bounds ruling wiped out Indiana’s go-ahead touchdown in a 19-15 Big Ten thriller at Memorial Stadium.

Ohio State ended Indiana’s 22-game winning streak with a 19-15 victory Saturday at Memorial Stadium in Bloomington, a top-five Big Ten meeting decided by a late out-of-bounds ruling that took a go-ahead touchdown off the board for the Hoosiers.
The loss is Indiana’s first since 2024 and leaves both programs with immediate questions: the Hoosiers must repair an offense that stalled at key moments, while Ohio State will move forward without quarterback Julian Sayin for at least the next few weeks.
With 1:02 remaining, Indiana wide receiver Nick Marsh appeared to come down with the go-ahead touchdown catch, and fireworks went off inside Memorial Stadium. Marsh was ruled out of bounds, sending the Ohio State sideline into celebration and leaving Indiana with a wrenching close to the biggest home game in program history.
“We had it, but we just didn’t make it happen,” Indiana head coach Curt Cignetti said. “It’s a hard one to swallow, learn from it and move on.”
Ohio State’s decisive score came from Heisman Trophy candidate Jeremiah Smith. “I actually ran the wrong route,” Smith said postgame. “But Julian trusted me and I made the play.”
Sayin’s availability is now central. Ryan Day said after the game that the quarterback will be out a “couple of weeks” after suffering a shoulder injury in the fourth quarter. Sayin was seen walking off the field with his arm in a sling. Ohio State has a bye next week before traveling to USC in late October.
Before the late chaos, Indiana had pulled within reach when Josh Hoover threw a touchdown pass with 10:12 left in the fourth quarter, forcing the Buckeyes to protect a lead after a fourth-quarter collapse at Texas earlier this season.
Ohio State defensive coordinator Matt Patricia told assistant coaches after the game that he’d rather not watch the final play again, a sentiment that matched the narrow margin.
The defeat resets Indiana’s Big Ten and College Football Playoff chase. Cignetti’s team will need more from its quarterback and receivers after the offense looked overmatched for stretches against the Buckeyes.
For Ohio State, the road win keeps the Buckeyes in strong postseason position, but the next month will hinge on how the offense holds up without its starting quarterback.
