Montgomery County DA identifies 22-year-old killed in Upper Pottsgrove officer-involved shooting

The Montgomery County District Attorney's Office has identified the man shot and killed by an Upper Pottsgrove Township police officer as 22-year-old Glenwood Earl Pysher IV.

The shooting followed a 911 call reporting a possible break-in at a home on Snyder Road at about 12:29 a.m. on Sunday, Aug. 23.

Officials said police found a man behind the house when they arrived, an "encounter" followed, and police shot and killed Pysher.

Erin Pysher, his mother, said her son went to the wrong backyard by mistake and thought it was a friend's house. She claimed he was on the phone with friends for two minutes and then was shot.

"It's a small little error that it cost him his life. It should've never happened," she said. "The cops should have never resorted to such force. He was unarmed. He wasn't trying to do anything dangerous or malicious or hurt anybody. It escalated way too fast."

Pysher had previously played baseball for Northampton County Community College and had transferred to St. Elizabeth College in New Jersey for his senior season, where he was going to continue to play baseball and study to become a history teacher, his mother said.

"He just turned 22 on the 10th. He just had a birthday he was supposed to start school and go to college. He was supposed to play baseball and live his life and it was cut short," she said.

The District Attorney's Office said it is continuing to investigate the incident and will provide an update when it is completed. No charges have been announced, and the involved officer has not been named publicly. The Courant is reporting what authorities and the family have stated; the investigation is active and no conclusions about fault have been reached.
