Gail Lerner Fired From Her Own NBC Comedy 'Newlyweds'

Gail Lerner has been fired from her own NBC sitcom, Newlyweds, ahead of its Oct. 23 premiere.

An NBC spokesperson confirmed the dismissal to The Hollywood Reporter and said the reason given was 'creative differences.'

Lerner announced the news Friday in an Instagram post. 'Hey Friends, Here's the good news: I couldn't be more proud of the new sitcom Newlyweds that I created with the singular Jamie Lee Curtis. Premieres 10/23!' she wrote.

Lerner wrote that the reason she was given was 'creative differences.'

The show, co-created by Lerner and Jamie Lee Curtis, centers on a free-spirited woman played by Téa Leoni and a buttoned-up professor played by Tim Daly, who marry after a whirlwind courtship.

Daly and Leoni are married in real life and have been together for more than a decade after meeting on CBS's 2014-19 drama Madam Secretary.

Lerner called the project 'the most joyous TV experience of my life,' writing that the cast, crew and writers are 'unparalleled.'

She noted that the first six episodes were made under her leadership and said she 'wouldn't change a thing.'

'No one knows what's going to happen in our meshuganah business, but I predict this show's gonna be a barn burner,' Lerner wrote. 'Please check out the first six (and beyond!). If you like them, please let me know! If you don't, keep it to yourself.'

A veteran producer, Lerner's credits include Black-ish, Mixed-ish, Will & Grace, Happy Endings and Ugly Betty.

Universal Television produces Newlyweds. Lerner ended her post with a line from a friend: 'better to die on your feet than live on your knees.' She signed it, 'Love from your friend on her feet.'
